Job Openings: Member Service Representative I, Part Time, Tawas

Salary:Pay Grade B
Days: Five days a week-Monday through Friday with some Saturdays; 28 hours per week
Hours:Branches are open: M-W: 9-5, TH: 9-6, F: 9-6, Sat: 9-1, Sun: closed.


Position Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to assist Northland Area Federal Credit Union in living out its Service Mission, “To be our members’ most trusted financial partner,” by delivering outstanding service to both internal and external members. A key element of excellent service is to identify the financial needs of each member and recommend an appropriate credit union solution. In addition, perform limited transactional duties to serve members by receiving or paying out funds with high degree of accuracy. Maintain accurate transactional records, providing basic cash receipt and payment services in accordance with established credit union policies and procedures.

  1. Meets all sales goals as established

  2. Meets all established service goals as measured by Member Shoppers

  3. Greet and welcome members to the credit union in a courteous, professional and timely manner

  4. Provide prompt, efficient, and accurate processing of member transactions

  5. Receive share drafts/checks and cash for deposit to accounts, verify amounts, examine share drafts/checks for proper endorsement, and enter deposits into computer records

  6. Cash share drafts/checks and process withdrawals; pay out money after verification of signatures and member balances

  7. Assist with mail transactions, when available

  8. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by MSR staff. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all related policies and procedures, rules and regulations for the MSR area, including robbery procedures

  9. Promote, explain, and cross-sell other credit union services such as consumer and mortgage loans, IRAs, certificates, safe deposit boxes, debit and credit cards, on-line banking, and money orders

  10. Receive mortgage, consumer loan, and other payments, and ensure the payments match balances due

  11. Ensure that the MSR station is properly stocked with forms, supplies, brochures, etc.


Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Additional Desired Attributes:

Previous credit union, financial institution, cash handling, member service, sales or related experience


The successful candidate will have a professional approach in dealing with others, work well in a team environment, as well as, display excellent communication skills. This position requires a member-focused, service-oriented and positive attitude. Must demonstrate consistent accuracy and efficiency, as well as, strong attention to detail. Must be able to educate members on credit union products/ services and use sound judgement. Requires strict adherence to confidentiality and protecting member sensitive data. Strong personal computer skills required. This position requires basic mathematical comprehension and proficiency in 10-key entry.

Misc Comments:

Typical indoor office work environment with continuous standing in a stationary position required. Must be able to also occasionally reach, push, pull, lift/carry up to 50 pounds and move about/traverse inside the branch. Must be able to continuously communicate to others and exchange information, as well as, continuous repetitive use of hand/fingers, such as keyboard typing, counting cash, using office equipment, etc. Must be able to continuously think analytically, concentrate on tasks, and remember names and/or details.
